The winds of change are sweeping through Las Olas Boulevard, and with it comes a touch of ultra-luxury that promises to elevate the city’s charm to dazzling new heights. Meet The Whitfield, an opulent five-star hotel set to rise at 1007 East Las Olas Blvd., a development that just earned unanimous approval from city commissioners. But this isn’t just another hotel—it’s a bold statement of elegance, sophistication, and innovation.
So, when can we expect the ribbon-cutting ceremony for this crown jewel?
“Not soon enough,” quipped developer Charlie Ladd, brimming with excitement after the decisive vote Tuesday night.
The Whitfield has been a long time coming. Initially approved three years ago, the project underwent a significant redesign, returning to the commission with even loftier ambitions. The new plans include 17 high-end condos and an increased building height, from 10 stories to an awe-inspiring 12 stories, further cementing its status as a landmark in Fort Lauderdale’s skyline.
“We will be an independent hotel that’s part of the Leading Hotels of the World luxury collection, a prestigious group of over 460 world-class properties,” Ladd explained. “Locally, this includes iconic names like the Acqualina Resort in Sunny Isles and the Brazilian Court in Palm Beach.”
A Perfect Blend of Luxury Living and Boutique Hospitality
The Whitfield isn’t just a hotel—it’s an experience. With its redesign, the number of rooms has been scaled back from 138 to 81, making way for the luxurious condos, which are expected to sell for a staggering $3.7 million to $15 million each.
But who’s buying? According to Ladd, the condos are tailored for local buyers—those who want to indulge in a high-end, carefree lifestyle.
“Think of an empty nester,” Ladd said, “someone who loves the Fort Lauderdale vibe and wants to live in a space where they can enjoy premium amenities like a pool, rooftop café, and private dining, all while being steps away from Las Olas Boulevard’s vibrant dining and shopping scene.”
With its anticipated opening in late 2026, The Whitfield will join the ranks of Las Olas’ other renowned hotels: the historic Riverside Hotel, a staple since 1936, and the chic Hyatt Centric, which debuted in 2020.
The Heart of Las Olas Gets a Luxe Makeover
Strategically located on the northwest corner of Las Olas Boulevard and Southeast 10 Terrace, The Whitfield’s design is set to charm locals and visitors alike. Its ground floor will feature boutique shops, while the second floor boasts a restaurant with an outdoor terrace overlooking the iconic boulevard. The rooftop? A dreamy oasis with a pool, café, and a private dining space, perfect for hotel guests and exclusive events.
“This project is a high-quality addition to downtown Fort Lauderdale,” said Kristin LaFleur, a resident of the Beverly Heights neighborhood, who spoke in favor of the development during Tuesday’s commission meeting. “Charlie Ladd has been transparent throughout the process. A project of this caliber will draw both residents and visitors to our beloved Las Olas Boulevard.”
A Vision Years in the Making
For developers Charlie Ladd and Steve Hudson, The Whitfield represents the culmination of years of planning, patience, and passion. They’ve long dreamed of bringing a five-star experience to the heart of Las Olas, a boulevard known for its charm and vibrancy.
“We’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to bring an upscale hotel to this iconic street,” Ladd said, hinting at the potential for The Whitfield to become the new epicenter of luxury and culture in Fort Lauderdale.
As the city prepares for this game-changing addition, one thing is certain: The Whitfield won’t just raise the bar—it will set a new standard. Whether you’re a local resident, a curious visitor, or an investor, Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard is about to become the ultimate destination for indulgence and elegance.
Stay tuned, because 2026 is closer than you think, and The Whitfield is ready to welcome you with open arms.
